The governor of Russia’s Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, has given the order to evacuate residents of all settlements in the Rilsky and Khomutovsky districts of the province, located 15 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
The Kursk region has been the scene of fierce fighting since the Ukrainian army invaded in early August, seizing territory along the border. Russian troops have been making efforts in recent days to push back Kiev’s forces.
