In late 2026, early 2027, the new data center campus in Attiki (Peania region) will start operating by Data4an investment of 300 million euros.
According to what Data4’s CEO, Olivier Micheli, told “N”, the French company has been working on the project in question for 18 months and has already obtained all the necessary licenses (archaeological, demolition licenses, etc.).
“We are now in the process of building our infrastructure and the works have already started,” he noted and added: “Data4 plans to build 2 data centers that will be powered by up to 90 MW of power. Since our plan has a long-term perspective, we are in discussions with the local authorities to invest more in the future. Greece is a high-growth market in terms of digitalization. We are already preparing to double the market by 2030 and we are doing everything to be ready to develop new buildings.”
Data4’s goal, as Data4’s CEO also points out, is to “build data centers and provide hosting space for companies of all types.”
Data4’s investment in Greece is part of its €7 billion global expansion investment programme in Europe by 2030, with the aim of becoming a leading provider of data centres in the former Epirus.
Today, Data4 manages 35 data centers in France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Luxembourg, Germany and is now entering Greece, which it describes as a “strategic connectivity hub” since, as its management points out, “Greece’s privileged position as a hub between Europe, Asia and Africa makes it an ideal location for international connectivity projects.”
Globally, in Europe and at the end of the decade, the number of data centers It is estimated to increase 2.5 times, reaching around 23 GW of installed capacity. Almost half of this power (11 GW) should be dedicated to artificial intelligence, according to studies by Data4.
The new data center campus in Paiana is located in an industrial area, ensuring proximity to important energy resources. It will be built on a 75-hectare site.
Data4’s goal is to achieve BREEAM certification with an “Excellent” rating for its data centers in Greece. This certification covers key criteria such as energy efficiency, water management, sustainable materials such as low-carbon concrete, and biodiversity conservation.
As noted by the company’s management, by meeting these rigorous standards, Data4 will be one of the first in Europe and the first in Greece to have BREEAM certified data centers, setting a new benchmark for sustainability in the industry.
