Five people were killed and 46 others injured in a Ukrainian attack on the southwestern Russian city of Belgorod late last night, the local governor said, adding that 37 of the injured, including seven children, had been taken to hospital.
A video taken from inside a car, posted on social media and purportedly showing the attack, shows another car being blown up as it passes by on the road. Seconds later, there is an explosion on the other side of the road. Reuters cannot currently confirm the authenticity of the video.
Russia’s Investigative Committee announced on its Telegram channel that it has opened a criminal investigation into the attack in Belgorod.
Authorities also reported that a woman was injured today during Ukrainian shelling in the border town of Sebekino in the Belgorod region.
Ukraine has frequently launched attacks on Belgorod and other regions bordering Russia in recent months.
