Al Roker You are taking your dog’s health seriously.
On Monday, Roker was absent from the Today show while his beloved dog, Pepper, recovers from emergency surgery.
The meteorologist’s longtime colleague, Dylan Dreyer, filled in for NBC’s two morning broadcasts.
Roker, 69, and his journalist wife Deborah Roberts63 years old, had a big scare about his pet’s health.
On Sunday, Roker updated his nearly 1 million followers on Pepper’s health on Instagram. He shared photos of him and his wife with their dog at the veterinary hospital. In the photos, Pepper was wearing a protective cone around her head with an IV drip in her paw.
“Our little girl, Pepper, had emergency surgery but is recovering,” he wrote. “She’s being taken care of really well and is coming home tomorrow. Wow. You can sleep in our bed as much as you want.”
The pair can be seen comforting their furry family member, with Roberts giving Pepper a big hug in the last photo.
Roberts also took to Instagram to express his gratitude that Pepper is okay.
“Gratitude. My heart is exploding today,” Roberts captioned the post. “Our little girl, Pepper, gave us quite a scare. She survived emergency surgery. But thankfully, our strong girl is on the mend. We are grateful for any and all prayers for our sweet pup who has stolen our hearts for 12 years. . #grateful #heart ❤️🩹 #puppy #love.”
In the comments, family and friends of the couple sent prayers and good wishes for the puppies.
But Roker and Roberts don’t just have a fur baby to worry about. The couple became grandparents when their daughter, Courtney, and son-in-law, Wes, welcomed a baby girl in July.
“I’m doing great, doing great,” Roker told ET. “I tell you, what kept me going is that I had a new granddaughter.”
Roker said the arrival of his first grandchild, Sky, has enriched his life.
“You could love them and then return them… If I knew they were so much fun, I would have them first,” he said. “This is the best.”
Roker and Roberts will deliver the commencement address at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday.
