O 2024 Gala is here – and the biggest stars showed off their best looks to celebrate!
The annual event – organized by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour – is always held on the first Monday in May and is attended by a host of A-list celebrities such as Zendaya, Blake Livelythe Kardashian-Jenner family and many other stars attending fashion’s biggest night.
This year’s theme – “Sleeping Beauties: Awakening Fashion” – is a tribute to the history of fashion. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibition theme – curated and organized by The Costume Institute – will feature 250 items from its permanent collection displayed in a new and innovative way.
The guest list
In addition to the co-chairs, the Met Gala always features a star-studded guest list, complete with bold, demure, and delicate fashions. Anna Wintour is responsible for the guest list, keeping it secret before the event. However, Rihanna has already confirmed his next appearance. Riri said British Vogue that she’ll be at the chic party while teasing her red carpet look.
“I’m going to wear something Fenty! Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin, Fenty Savage,” she confirmed.
The hosts of the night
A long time Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has served as co-chair of the annual event since the magazine’s partnership with the Met Gala began in 1995. And this year’s co-chairs also include Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny. Jonathan Anderson, creative director of LOEWE, and Shou Chew, CEO of TikTok, are honorary co-chairs.
When/Where is the Met Gala held?
The Met Gala takes place (almost) every year on the first Monday in May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The red carpet begins at 6pm ET and runs until the final star (historically, Rihanna) arrives.
What is the theme of this year’s Met Gala?
The theme of this year’s Met Gala is “Sleeping Beauties: Awakening Fashion.” Max Hollein, CEO of The Met, said in an affirmation that the “innovative” exhibition – and its accompanying star-studded annual fundraising gala – will “push the limits of our imagination and invite us to experience the multi-sensory facets of a piece of clothing”.
According to the announcement, the exhibition will include garments that are more than 400 years old and will be “visually united by iconography related to nature, which will serve as a metaphor for the fragility and ephemerality of fashion”.
