Shots were fired at Stefanos Kasselakis by Sokratis Famellos from the podium Syriza’s KE.
During his presentation, Mr. Famellos stated that “the Left has been engraved in the consciousness of Greek society for its high ideals, for the quality and goodness of its people. And no one has the right to tarnish this historical and social legacy. And no one has the right to question the legacy of the Left Government, the Government of Alexis Tsipras, the Government that kept society standing and Greece stronger and pulled it out of the abyss of memoranda and bankruptcy.”
Famellos highlighted that “because the phenomena of fandom and threats are multiplying, which question the democratic right to opinion, but also the obligation to observe the statute, I must say that these are attitudes and behaviors of other political and social spaces and do not belong here. Neither authoritarianism, nor shouting, nor sterile anger.”
SYRIZA: Nominations until October 24th – The PG proposal and the calendar
“We are and will all be here! This must be the agreement of the Central Committee. And we will even surpass ourselves to make it a reality. In order not to make the system of power and the tangle that wants a SYRIZA-PS dissolved” he stressed and added: “To fight the great social battles of quality of life, better incomes, the battle against the rigor, and the super profits of the oligopolies that Mr Mitsotakis supports, but also access to education, health, water and a healthy environment, a strong, serious and reliable SYRIZA-PS is needed. To give a progressive response to Mr Mitsotakis’s demise, the space of our own ideas, which are radical, strongly reformist, European, ecological, democratic, must be strong.”
Famellos stressed that “this struggle cannot be waged with a liquidated SYRIZA-PS. Something that has been happening for a long time, but especially after the European elections, when we saw the discredit of SYRIZA-PS.”
“Censorship was requested by St. Kasselaki”
Pointing his arrows at Stefanos Kasselakis, Mr. Famellos said that “the latest incident of censorship clearly hurt us. We made many attempts to avoid it. But we must be clear: the censorship was chosen and sought by the former president. Underestimating that this will be a stigma for the party, underestimating the possibility of achieving popular elections, which she so often mentioned but did not want to hear his opinion. And even with him in office as president until the elections of a new leadership.”
“And this makes the reaction after the censure result even more hypocritical, because we chose a procedure based on the statute and not on whether we like the result or not. You cannot request the presentation and vote on a censure and, if it loses, consider it undemocratic,” Famellos continued.
He characterized the characterizations of “hooded” and “perversion” as unacceptable and reprehensible, referring to “samples of another culture and mentality on his part”. “However, I believe that the biggest problem is the political choices of the former president that led to the motion of censure,” he added and added: “The inconsistent political palindromes, the distancing, the violation of the conference decisions, with the parallel phenomena of personal overpromotion and discrediting of the collective, not only deprived us of a better result in the European elections, but also led, in July and August, to the decrease in our appeal and to social discredit.”
“The decapitation of the KO presidency without a proposal from the PG and without any justification or deficit, and the attempt to change our characteristics with the proposal of statutory regulations – which were fortunately rejected in the statutes committee – proved the former president’s distancing from our ideas and also from the characteristics of our party” observed Famellos.
Continuing the “fire” against Kasselakis, he said that “he didn’t want this party, he wanted another one and that’s why he brought back the proposal to change the name as was done in February with the questionnaire”.
“Kasselakis’s choices served Mitsotakis’ plan”
“The most important thing that matters to society is that these choices by Stefanos Kasselakis served the plan of Kyriakos Mitsotakis who is organizing parties at the expense of society. But also PASOK who is demanding our liquidation”, he added and added that “the main thing is this, comrades, that the choices of the former president were against the values of the left and the interests of society”.
In conclusion, he stressed that “the restart of our party requires a reliable, serious and dynamic SYRIZA, which society trusts and is capable of supporting the needs and rights of citizens, to play a central political role, overturning the plans of the Mitsotakis System.”
He stated that “my opinion on the Congress process and the election of the president has been expressed. We owe it to all our organizations to talk “calmly and simply” about our political proposal for the next day. And this presupposes a serious dialogue focused on politics and with an eye to and thinking about tomorrow, which invites all social SYRIZA and those who have withdrawn and disappointed to participate. The candidacies for the office of president must express, ensure and guarantee unity, the collective. But also the values and ideas of the left. And, of course, we must commit ourselves to respecting the collective bodies and their decisions, where we have had the greatest inconsistency.”
