A state of emergency has been imposed in Tikhoretsk, a city in southwestern Russia, following a Ukrainian drone strike on an ammunition depot.
Residents of Tikhoretsk have been asked to evacuate their homes.
Krasnodar Region Governor Benjamin Kondratiev said that “a state of emergency has been declared in the region to organize assistance to the population and quickly resolve all issues related to the incident.”
Ukraine, for its part, said it had struck two Russian ammunition depots overnight, in two strikes that confirmed Kiev’s ability to strike targets deep inside Russian territory.
A statement from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said the hit warehouses were located in Tikhoretsk, Krasnodar and Oktyabrsky, Tver.
“The Tikhoretsk facility is one of the three largest ammunition depots of the occupation forces and one of the keys in Russia’s military logistics chain,” the Ukrainian military said in a statement.
North Korean weapons information
Ukraine had information that a convoy carrying 2,000 tons of munitions, some of which came from North Korea, was at the facility at the time of the attack.
A Ukrainian security source said drones were used in the attacks.
