A 10-year-old schoolboy was injured in a knife attack by a 44-year-old man near Japanese school in the south China.
This is the second such attack involving a Japanese educational institution in China in recent months.
The attack took place about 200 meters from the school’s entrance, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said, according to Reuters.
The student was immediately taken to the hospital and the perpetrator was arrested.
The perpetrator’s motives are unclear
The motives for the attack remain unclear, as does the child’s nationality.
In June, when a man attacked a Japanese school bus in the city of Suzu, resulting in the death of a Chinese national who was trying to shield a Japanese mother and her child with his body.
Today marks the 93rd anniversary of the so-called Mukden Incident, which was orchestrated by the Japanese military and led to Japan’s invasion of its neighbor. Historians estimate that around 14 million Chinese died and another 100 million became refugees during the ensuing war.
