Today, Hosni Abdel Wahed, the first ambassador of the Palestinian state to Spain, presented his credentials to the King of Spain, Felipe VI, following his recognition by Madrid in May.
The Spanish head of state received Hosni Abdel Wahid at the Palace of Madrid for a credentials presentation ceremony, according to images released by the royal house on Platform X.
Hosni Abdel Wahed, who has been head of the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Spain since 2022 and enjoys a status similar to that of an ambassador, officially changed its diplomatic position after Madrid recognized the Palestinian state a few months ago.
Bilateral summit
On May 28, the progressive government of Spain, like those of Ireland and Norway, recognized Palestine as a state.
Since the beginning of September, Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that the “first bilateral summit between Spain and Palestine” will take place “by the end of the year”.
Spain has adopted a very critical stance towards Israel since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza.
Entering its 12th month, the war that erupted after Hamas’s attack on Israel has killed 1,205 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures, which also includes hostages who were killed while being held captive.
Of the 251 people kidnapped during the attack, 97 are still being held in the Gaza Strip, 33 of whom are dead, the army said.
Israel’s retaliatory military campaign in the Gaza Strip has killed 41,226 people, according to the Hamas-led Gaza Health Ministry, which did not specify the number of fighters and civilians killed.
