Justin Mohn was previously found competent to stand trial for the beheading death of his father and subsequent publication of a video “manifesto” featuring his severed head.
The Pennsylvania man who allegedly decapitated his own father, before posting a 14-minute video “manifesto” on YouTube that appeared to include his father’s severed head, is speaking out — explaining why he did it.
Justin Mohn, 32, spoke to reporters for NBC 10 after a court hearing Tuesday in Bucks County. He is accused of murdering his father, Michael Mohn, on January 30, 2024. in macabre style.
As he was led out of the courtroom wearing a yellow jumpsuit and handcuffs by two police officers, Mohn answered questions.
“I wasn’t anticipating this. I had a speech prepared, but I don’t have that speech with me,” he said when asked about his side of the story. “I, and many other people across America, believe that the federal government has betrayed America. They are destroying the nation and now we have to do something to take our nation back.”
The reporter then asked, “What does killing your father have to do with this?”
“He was a federal employee, and he betrayed me,” Mohn responded. “I was attempting to execute a citizen’s arrest. He resisted that citizen’s arrest. It is legal to use deadly force in this situation.”

Arguments in Court
According to NBC, prosecutors argued that the killing was premeditated, saying his YouTube speech also appeared deliberate because he appeared to be reading from a script. They believe Mohn wanted others to try to overthrow the federal government and kill other brokers and federal judges.
A letter Mohn allegedly wrote to the National Guard base where he was ultimately apprehended after the killing was also read in court. In it, he allegedly apologized and requested that the Guard join the action.
A “to-do list” was also presented by prosecutors, as well as photos of him purchasing the gun that police believe he used to kill his father. They also alleged that Mohn’s father was using the bathroom when he was shot.

Homicide details
Prosecutor Jennifer Schorn previously revealed that police had been dispatched to Michael Mohn’s Middletown Township to respond to a homicide investigation. The 911 call came from a neighbor’s home after Michael’s wife, Denise, arrived home to find her husband decapitated inside the bathroom.
When police arrived, they found the decapitated body, before finding Michael’s head wrapped in plastic wrap and in a pot in a side room.
Schorn revealed that police had obtained a series of phone calls about a YouTube video Justin posted, in which he was seen holding his father’s head. The 14:32-long video was titled “Mohn’s Militia,” with Schorn describing it as a “call to arms for American patriots.” She said it appeared to have been filmed in the same room where the bloody gloves were discovered — and showed Justin “holding a human head indifferently to the body that is wrapped in plastic,” saying it belonged to his father, who was “in hell for being a traitor to his nation.”

In the video, Mohn went on to call himself “the commander of America’s national militia community” and suggested that his followers torture and kill federal employees.
In response to Schorn, Justin was apprehended after authorities located his cellphone — and placed it at a National Guard training facility at Fort Indiantown Hole. He reportedly “climbed a barbed wire fence and entered the secure military installation,” but was taken away without incident.
Mohn had a SIG Sauer 9mm pistol — which was loaded but missing a round — with him when he was arrested. According to Schorn, he allegedly stated that he went to the training center “in an effort to mobilize the Pennsylvania National Guard to increase weapons against federal law enforcement” and hoped to speak with Gov. Josh Shapiro to “join the forces.”
The victim was shot dead in the head and dismembered with a knife and machete after his death. According to Schorn, the suspect purchased the weapon used in the crime the day before — and did so legally.
Mohn was found competent to stand trial again in August.regardless of being recognized as having delusional dysfunction.
