With the phrase “I am here” and denouncing the “provocations”, S. Kasselakis made his first public intervention during the meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA, which is called to decide on the exact status of the deposed president.
Specifically, Mr. Kasselakis states:
“As there are incredible provocations at the moment – from fake dialogues to fake invitations – (even my alleged supporter with a Trump hat was summoned!), I want to ask SYRIZA friends not to organize protest rallies.
And above all, do not sabotage the visit of the Head of the KO of SYRIZA – PS, Nikos Pappas, to the TEF.
Against fun, composure, patience and self-control are our strength.
Turn your anger into creation. I’m here.”
SYRIZA’s internal parties gained new momentum as they wanted scenarios in which associates of Mr Kasselakis would try to reopen his office in Koumoundourou, in a move with the obvious aim of questioning whether or not the former president had been “deposed”.
This, according to one version, accelerated, if not caused, the extraordinary meeting of the Political Secretariat that is to decide on Kasselakis’ status.
The dialogues that led to the extraordinary meeting
Stefanos Kasselakis is looking for someone who has legal and administrative responsibility for the party. For this reason, both he and Manolis Kapnisakis contacted SYRIZA secretary Rania Svigou.
Kapnisakis asked Svigou who is currently responsible for everything that happens in the party, with the secretary referring him to the Central Committee’s decision.
Subsequently, Stefanos Kasselakis himself contacted Ms. Svigou and asked her the same question. He gave her the same answer, but at the same time referred her to the CFO. When Mr. Kasselakis contacted Mr. Mavrokephalidis, he replied that he is normally the president until the extraordinary congress, unless he gives him a power of attorney.
Kontiadis’s “Opinion”.
In this scenario, the “opinion” of (Professor) Xenof also deserves to be highlighted. Kontiadis believes that Mr. Kasselakis should not be considered a deserter.
Kontiadis states, writing on Facebook:
“A brief institutional commentary on the internal party procedures in SYRIZA. According to the party constitution, “in the event of withdrawal of confidence by the Central Committee by 50% +1 of its members in the president, an extraordinary congress is convened.” (art. 20 par. 4). First observation, the withdrawal of confidence does not follow from the statute implying the impeachment of the president, but the convening of a conference to launch a new electoral process from the party base. But it was accepted as a discount and president Kaselakis and his associates left.
Second observation, concerning the process of waiving confidence. In the Central Committee, it was decided that the relevant procedure should be carried out by secret ballot. However, 210 of its 295 members were present. Thus, while those present voted at the ballot box, those absent voted by telephone, in a hearing open to a three-member committee. We read in the report that “out of a total of 295 members of the Central Committee, 210 people voted in person at the ballot box, while 64 members voted by telephone. Furthermore, 21 members did not answer the phone.” What secrecy, what institutional seriousness was involved in the process, what implications did the vote have?
All this is not happening in a third world country or a marginal party, but in the main opposition party in an EU Member State. So many wonder why political parties, as an institution necessary for the functioning of parliamentarism, have been completely discredited in the consciousness of citizens…
PS Of course, if SYRIZA had functioned in terms of institutional seriousness, I doubt that Kaselakis would ever have been elected president, but I have analyzed them extensively in my book “The Kaselaki Phenomenon” (published by Kastaniotis, 2023).
Polakis wants a penny
In the field of statements, ready for a debate with Stefanos Kasselakis, he declares with a position of Pavlos Polakis in dialogue with Internet users.
“Always my soul and mind fly not above 300, but above a thousand meters of fresh air. But rest assured that I will come down when we have a pre-election confrontation (we call it a debate in Sfakia) with Kasselakis! EVERYTHING will be seen there!”
“We have an angry people who do not believe in the procedures, who read constitutional experts, who say that the procedure was not carried out as it should have been” Petros Pappas.
The formation of a democratic front, based on a programmatic agreement that will include an alternative government proposal, is preferred by Dionysius Teboneras.
“I am very afraid that if New Democracy chooses an electoral surprise we could find ourselves in a 4-2-4 system. The left and the democratic world should not allow this,” he stressed.
Finally, Yiannis Ragousis noted: “I am and remain a SYRIZA executive, my whole concept is about whether we will all respond to the demand of progressive voters, 70% of PASOK voters, 80% of SYRIZA voters ask us to take common initiatives to create a strong political force against the government.”
