Members of the Political Secretariat, close to the “87”, were met with disapproval when they arrived in Koumoundourou for the body’s meeting.
In particular, outside its headquarters SIRIZA gathered a group of people who allegedly support the former party chairman, insulting officials such as Olga Gerovasili, Thanasis Theocharopoulos, Kostas Zachariadis and others.
It is recalled that the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA meets at the initiative of the party secretary, Rania Svigou.
In the previous 24 hours, the climate of questioning the Central Committee’s decision – and by extension the dismissal of Kasselakis – by executives and associates of the former president “inflamed”.
The discussion around the statute
It should be noted that a debate has opened up about whether Stefanos Kasselakis should be removed from the party presidency immediately after the approval of the censure against him or whether he should remain until the election or even until the extraordinary party congress.
The party constitution does not clarify this issue in detail, but states that the Central Committee is the highest governing body.
Specifically in Article 16.1 it states: “The Central Committee is the highest political body. It is responsible for implementing the decisions of the conference. It elects the Political Secretariat, its Secretary and the bodies it considers necessary for the functioning and action of the party.”
Article 20.5 states: “The announcement of the conference, the organization of the pre-conference process, the pre-conference texts and the measure of representation are the responsibility of the Central Committee.”
