Brooke Shields‘The daughter is getting real about her health issues… admitting she has been quietly dealing with diabetes for years — starting when she was just in high school.
Rowan HenchyBrooke’s 21-year-old daughter whom she shares with the director Chris Henchyspoke to People in an article revealed Saturday … and she says she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was a freshman in high school.
Henchy says he knew something was wrong when he lost weight rapidly, despite eating twice as much at each meal.
Add to that vision problems, frequent trips to the bathroom, and what she calls a “really dangerous toe infection”… and HR just knew something was seriously wrong.
Rowan says diabetes and the transition to college were tough for her… ‘because she didn’t have many friends, so she had to deal with despair as she adjusted to her new routine.
Brooke says she thinks this caused Rowan to grow up quickly, with the constant need to test her glucose levels and inject herself with insulin, which caused her to mature quickly.
Brooke, for her part, is also aware of the situation… starring in a coming-of-age film, “Quarter” — centered on a woman living with it.
It looks like mother and daughter are dealing with the prognosis together… and they certainly won’t let it get them down!
