Lefteris Petrounias’ efforts in the basket preliminaries were applauded today by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who has been in Paris since yesterday where he had the opportunity to closely follow the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
In his statements to AMPE, the Prime Minister highlighted the opening ceremony as “definitely something very impressive. Maybe we don’t like some things aesthetically, but it was a very good effort. We may be a bit biased, but the 2004 opening ceremony is a reference for us. Maybe it was better designed for television than for viewers.”
Regarding Lefteris Petrounias, he highlighted that “he is always a very impressive athlete. When you see the athlete live, you understand how difficult this sport is”.
“I haven’t been to the Olympic Games since 2004. For us Greeks, the Olympic Games have a special meaning. I am very excited and very happy as a sports fan to see our athletes trying their best,” he said.
Regarding the “investment” in sport, he highlighted that “this year has been a very good sporting year so far”. The most important thing is to lay the foundations and the appropriate infrastructure to excel in the most diverse sports and, above all, to give children the opportunity to find the sport that interests them most. Cooperation with the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the federations must always be very close”.
Finally, he emphasized that the message for athletes is the same: let’s strive to achieve the best.
