AEK defeated Volos 2-0 in New Philadelphia tonight thanks to goals from Piero and Koita and created a three-point tie at the top of the Super League, sharing 10 points with PAOK and Olympiacos.
From the first minute, AEK closed Volos in their area, creating a lot of tension and in the 3rd minute threatened with a shot from Koitas that went wide, while in the 11th minute Kovacs made a great intervention to stop Pinedas’ shot. Uniao’s goal came in the 21st minute, when after a cross from Rota, Piero beat his opponent personally and opened the scoring with a successful header.
The hosts were superior, they also pressed for the second goal, with Volos in the 44th minute coming close to equalizing, but Mendieta missed the target with Strakosia.
In the second half, Volos became more aggressive, AEK more hasty in their choices with the ball and the guests rang the bell in the 47th minute when Strakosias deflected Ferrari’s shot.
Then, Matias Almeida’s team improved their performance, in the 61st minute they had an opportunity with Eliasson and in the 62nd minute they made it 2-0. After a pass from Ljubisic, Koita crossed, the ball found Kalogeropoulos and ended up in the net.
AEK “cleaned up” the game, then slowed down and the “news” came from the return of Jonsson, who returned to the field after his injury in early August.
