“We were fortunate enough to shoot four episodes in the last week or so, and Shannen was very motivated and decided to help make this show a success by giving you all more insight into the making, the fun and the behind-the-scenes of Charmed,” said her former castmate and co-host Brian Krause.
Shannen Doherty was busy at work in her last days.
On Monday, the actress’s ex-husband Charmed co-star Brian Krause gave an emotional introduction to the relaunch Home of Halliwell: A Charmed Retelling Podcast — which Doherty had joined last week — as he reflected on the shocking news of his death at age 53.
“I come to you tonight with a heavy heart after reading the news of Shannen Doherty’s passing yesterday afternoon,” Krause said as the episode began.
He continued: “I know all of us here at Home of Halliwell, iHeart media, social media, all over the world are shocked, devastated. Too young, too talented, too loving, too grateful, too soon. Shannen will be greatly missed and we are so honored that she came with us, or, had us join her in this new enchantment of Home of Halliwell.”
In Charmedwhich ran from 1996 to 2006, Doherty and Holly Marie Combs reverse star Alyssa Milanwho played the third Halliwell sister, Phoebe. Doherty appeared in the present until season 3. (She was replaced by By Rose McGowan Paige in Season 4.)
Krause, who played Combs’ husband Leo Wyatt on the WB series, has revealed since announcing the relaunch and the information that Doherty could join the podcast, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alumnus recorded 4 episodes of the Rewatch podcast, all of which they still plan to release.
“We were lucky enough to record 4 episodes in the last week or so, and Shannen was so motivated and decided to help make this show a success and give you all more insight into what was being made, the fun and behind the scenes of Charmed”, said Krause.
Regarding her work ethic, the 55-year-old actress added that if Doherty “needed something to be achieved, she got it, and that’s something I noticed a long time ago, watching her on set and working and being so expert and so good at what she did.”

The impression she left on him was “lasting” and “lifelong,” with Krause getting emotional before wrapping up the introduction to the podcast episode, which saw Krause, Combs, Doherty and Drew Fuller reminisce about the 1998 pilot episode of Charmed.
“So maybe I’ll just leave with this: I understand how grateful Shannen was, because I was lucky enough to travel with her to so many different places and ComicCons and go behind the scenes and hear from her the issues that affected her emotionally,” Krause said. “That gave her a lot, emotionally, and meeting the fans and hearing the stories and finding out how much this meant to all of you, that filled her up dramatically and I know she believed in the Halliwell House to be the little she was able to give back.”
He said the remaining trio will go ahead with the rerun podcast to “honor” Doherty.
“(We) will continue to hold her title and kick her ass, because that’s what she would do,” he added. “So from us in the Halliwell House — We love you and appreciate you and please keep Shannen in your prayers.”

On Sunday, Doherty’s representative, Leslie Sloane, announced the news of her death.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after several years of battling the disease,” Sloane said. TMZ. “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her family, as well as her dog, Bowie. The family requests privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. While she was considered in remission in 2017, in 2019 she realized her cancer had metastasized as Stage 4 to her brain and bones. Late last month, Doherty shared on her podcast Let’s be clear that she started a new sphere of chemotherapy. Despite being told her stage 4 cancer was incurable, she shared that she felt “hopeful” and was maintaining a positive outlook.
After news of his death, several of the Doherty’s Charmed castmates, along with Krause, took to social media to pay tribute.

Milan launched a affirmation who learned: “It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a sophisticated relationship, but deep down she was someone I deeply revered and admired. She was a talented actress, loved by many and the world is a much smaller place without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”
Krause additionally shared a tributewriting, “You taught me to be fearless and to live with the role. To know your worth and to stick to your guns. Infinitely loved! Truly heartbroken 😔
Meanwhile, McGowan posted a changing tribute on Instagramsharing a compilation video that contained photographs of Doherty.
“Shannen Doherty had the courage of a lion. Passion for the craft is often mislabeled as boredom. Shannen was passion. I met her in the 90s and was blown away. To really get to know her later in life was a phenomenal gift. This girl fought for her life. Shannen knew how to become a star, because she had been one since childhood,” McGowan wrote. “Her work ethic was inspiring to the core. Shannen’s undying love for directing, acting, Holly, her friends, her parents, her dogs and her beloved fans was legendary.”
