Palma Realthe comedy sensation with a star-studded cast led by Kristen Wiigwas renewed for season 2.
Apple TV+ announced the happy news on Thursday, just a month after the series completed its 10-episode first season.
“We are very excited to hear about season two,” said executive producer and Oscar winner Laura Dern said in a statement announcing the news. “Jayme (Lemons) and I (of Jaywalker Pictures) have been dreaming about this project for a long time, hoping that audiences would have delightful fun with the radical attraction that is the world of Palma Real. We all can’t wait to get started!”
Palma Real premiered in March and there was a lot of buzz thanks to a star-studded cast that includes Wiig Dern Carol Burnett, Kaia Gerber, Allison Janney, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Ricky Martin and Amber Chardae.
The series is set in 1969 and follows an ambitious woman named Maxine Simmons (Wiig), who aspires to cross the line between the haves and the have-nots to secure her seat at America’s most exclusive, elegant, and treacherous table: Palm Beach High. . society.
Although the show features an ensemble cast, there’s no doubt that a comedy legend like Burnett appearing on the series is a huge business. And no one is more aware of this than Wiig herself.
“I literally said today, ‘I still can’t believe we work together,'” Wiig said in a conversation with ET in March.
For the comedian and actress – who started Saturday night live — Starring alongside Burnett, 90, was a dream she wasn’t sure was real.
“I want to check if it’s her. I say, ‘It’s Carol, right? Yes, I mean, she’s Carol.’ And to me, just with comedy sketches and everything she’s done for every person, every woman, she’s a huge inspiration,” said the Bridesmaids star gushed at the time. “It was the crew, everyone. I mean, she’s just a dream.”
For her part, Carol told ET that she didn’t need to read the script to know she would be in the project.
“Being able to be in the same room and film with (Wiig) is just, it was…” Burnett said, pausing fondly as she looked at her co-star.
Dern, who called Burnett, shared with ET how she finally got the comedy legend’s commitment to join the series.
She joked, “You kind of pretend to know someone so well.”
