Developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the project electrical interconnection Greece – Cyprus (Great Sea Interconnector) were, among others, at the center of a telephone conversation held on Saturday by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidiswith the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
As announced by the representative of the Cypriot government, Constantinos Letympiotis, the two leaders agreed on a joint Greece-Cyprus-France meeting in New York.
According to Letympiotis, during their communication, the two leaders discussed developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, expressed their common concern about a possible destabilization and worsening of the situation in the region and discussed ways to de-escalate tension.
At the same time, the two leaders discussed the Cyprus-Greece electrical interconnection (GSI) project, in the context of the participation of a company with French interests.
“Both stressed the importance of this project of common interest in implementing the European Union’s energy objectives,” according to the respective announcement.
In this context, as reported, it was also agreed to hold a joint meeting of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Nikos Christodoulides and Emmanuel Macron in New York next week, on the sidelines of the work of the United Nations General Assembly.
At the same time, during the discussion, reference was also made to the upcoming Med9 Leaders Summit, which will take place in Paphos on 11 October, and which will also be attended by Mr.
At the Summit on the Future of the UN, the Prime Minister
With participation in the Summit on the future of the UN on Sunday, the Prime Minister’s program begins Kyriakou Mitsotakis at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Future Summit is an initiative of Secretary-General António Guterres and is part of the UN’s broader efforts to address critical global challenges such as geopolitical tensions, economic instability, human rights, digital governance and threats to global peace and to reform the international system to make it future-ready. The summit builds on the 2020 UN Declaration on the 75th anniversary of the international organization and aims to revitalize global cooperation.
Our country is expected to support the Compact for the Future at the United Nations, which focuses on peace, sustainable development, technology and global governance, reaffirming the principles of the United Nations Charter.
