After an impiously sold-out tour in Epidaurus and in the theaters of Attica and throughout Greece, Aris Biniaris’s “baptism” into ancient comedy completes its spectacular cycle on September 30 at the Lycabettus Theater.
Shortly before, the Galinhas will open the wings for an additional performance, on Thursday, September 26, at the Herodos Atticus Conservatory.
A last opportunity for the Attica public to enjoy Aristophanes’ universal poem with its true and essential theme: the search for a new beginning, outside human society, far from saturation, decadence and corruption.
With his artistic partners Elena Triantafyllopoulou (dramatic editing-arrangement), Pari Mexis (sets-costumes), Alexandros Drako Ktistakis (musical composition), Alexandros Vardaxoglou (kinesiology), Vangelis Moutrichas (lighting design) etc., Aris Biniaris delivered a modern adaptation of the timeless Aristophanic comedy centered on the human condition, transformation and the restoration of worldly justice.
Odysseas Papaspiliopoulos and George Chrysostomou in the roles of Pisthetairos and Evelpides, together with a number of excellent actors: Alexandros Vardaxoglou, Stelios Iakovidis, Thanasis Isidorou, Tassos Korkos, Costas Koronaios, Sofia Kouleras, Augustinos Koumoulos, Maria Kyrozis, Errico Miliaris, Marios Panagiotou, Costa Phoenix, Kyriako Sali, Alexia Sapranidou, Konstantina Takalou, Irini Tsellou establish their own ideal state in the ethers, far from people.
What would happen if someone organized birds to become bearers of a new reality?
The case
Two friends, Pisthetairos and Evelpides, disappointed with the living conditions in their city, look for a new place where they can live in peace and joy. Contact with the world of birds will give them the idea of establishing a new state in the ethers, between earth and sky.
While construction of the city is underway, uninvited visitors from the human world arrive, claiming arbitrary powers and privileges, while emissaries of the Olympian gods protest in dismay at the questioning of divine sovereignty while the new city avoids the smoke of sacrifices. from reaching the sky
Will Pisthetairos and Evelpides, with the help of the birds, be able to complete the construction of Nefelokokygia? How easy will it be to realize their own utopia?
The show
Aris Biniaris’ direction uses the ritual element to highlight the allegorical extensions of Aristophanic work, while the music and movement place the human condition, transformation and the restoration of worldly justice at the center of the performance.
With human civilization having reached a liminal moment, the flight of birds resembles a rite of initiation and reconnection of man with the natural world and with the unprecedented power that arises from this relationship.
