A demonstration in support of Gisele Peliko took place in the Belgian capital.
Peliko became a “symbol of womanhood” because during the 10 years her rape trial was held, she allowed the trial to be held in public. Gisele waived her right to anonymity to shift the “shame” back to the defendants, her legal team said.
As reported by Belgian television network rtl, the demonstration was organized by the founder of the “Balance ton bar” movement.
“This story completely echoes the movement that started three years ago, where we talked about sexual violence and chemical subjugation,” notes Maite Mes, founder of this online movement. “We wanted to show our support for Giselle Peliko, but also send the message that we believe the victims,” as well as the importance of mobilization, she added.
Similar demonstrations took place in French cities such as Paris and Marseille.
