The MTV Video Music Awards shook things up this year with a change of venue, a ton of A-list celebrities, and some extra wild moments… including Sabrina Carpenter kissing an alien at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
Chappell Roan caused a stir on the red carpet, putting a photographer in the spotlight …and then literally set the stage on fire with a passionate performance of her hit, “Good Luck Babe.”
Eminem made millennials feel nostalgic… his performance of “Houdini” saw him surrounded by lookalikes, a throwback to the VMAs from 24 years ago. He also performed his collaboration “Somebody Save Me” with Jelly roll special appearances on the big screen.
On this topic, LL Legal J was accompanied by Public Enemy’s Flavor Flavor and Chuck D to perform their old hits “Mama Said Knock You Out” and “Bring the Noise.”
Sabrina gave an out-of-this-world performance of a medley of chart-topping songs “Please, Please, Please,” “Taste” and “Espresso.” She then kissed a blue Martian… prompting a flurry of jokes about “transgender operations on illegal immigrants” inspired by this week’s presidential debate.
Katy Perry rocked out, singing some of her biggest hits including “Dark Horse,” “ET,” “Teenage Dream,” “I Kissed a Girl,” “Firework” and “Lifetimes.” Orlando Bloom presented her with this year’s Video Vanguard Award — giving her fiancé a big kiss after her performance. And Doechii joined KP on stage for the live debut of their collaboration “I’m His, He’s Mine”.
Karol G also rocked the stage with his new single “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido”, driving the audience wild — Taylor Swift and Camila Hair were standing and dancing along with her.
Tay Tay went into the night with the most nominations, taking home 7 awards… Her boyfriend Travis Kelce didn’t attend the show, but she praised it highly in her acceptance speech for Video of the Year. And Flavor gave a personalized gift to the co-host, Olympic athlete Jordan peppers.
