Which brands of eggs are being recalled and why?
On Friday, September 6, the FDA published a to perceive about the egg recall through its official website. Additionally, the notice explained that Milo’s Poultry Farms, LLC. — a manufacturer in Bonduel, Wisconsin — has issued a recall of egg products under the “Milo’s Poultry Farms” brand and the “Tony’s Fresh Market” brand.
“…these eggs have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the FDA warning says.
According to the administration, those infected with Salmonella may “often experience fever, diarrhea…nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.” Additionally, salmonella infection can reportedly spread to the bloodstream and lead to “more serious illnesses, such as arterial infections…endocarditis, and arthritis.”
“The recall was initiated after the FDA informed the company that environmental samples tested positive for the bacteria. The FDA also conducted whole genome sequencing and found that the samples were related to an ongoing investigation into the Salmonella outbreak,” the notice adds.
Which states are affected and what should consumers do?
According to the FDA, the recall is supposedly affecting “all carton sizes and all types of eggs” labeled “Milo’s Poultry Farms” and “Tony’s Fresh Market,” regardless of expiration date. The cartons were reportedly sold in Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois.
However, a warning published on September 6 by the CDC indicates that 24 people have been hospitalized while at least 65 people have fallen ill in California, Utah, Colorado, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and Virginia. So far, no deaths have been reported.
Additionally, the FDA has stated that production of both brands of eggs has been discontinued, and consumers are “urged not to consume” either brand of eggs if they are in their possession.

The FDA issued an ice cream recall earlier this year
In June, the FDA issued a similar recall on several brands of ice cream. As The Shadow Room previously reported, at the time, it was determined that several brands manufactured by Totally Cool Inc. in Maryland were “potentially” contaminated with listeria.
Similar to Salmonella, listeria causes severe symptoms in children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.
Additionally, the recall impacted more than 13 ice cream brands, including household names like Jeni’s and Hershey’s.
