More on Malik’s relationship with his brother Barack Obama and his past stance on Donald Trump
According to News weekMalik Obama is a dual citizen of Kenya and the United States. The outlet reports that in 2013, Malik noted having a “close” relationship with Barack, and they each reportedly served as best man at each other’s weddings.
However, Malik’s strong support for his brother is said to have changed “after several unsuccessful attempts to secure a position in Kenya.” In 2016, Malik spoke exclusively to the New York Post and revealed that he planned to vote for Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
“I like Donald Trump because he speaks from the heart,” Malik told the outlet at the time. “Make America Great Again is a great slogan. I would like to meet him… Mr. Trump is providing something new and something fresh.”
At the time, Malik also briefly mentioned his failed political campaign when talking about his brother. “I don’t think politics is my thing,” he said. “Honestly, I’ll be happy when my brother is out of office, and I’m finally out of the spotlight and can live like a human being.”
In 2022, Malik specifically detailed his reasoning for switching sides towards his brother through X.
“I stuck with Barack Obama throughout his presidency, until I realized he was only thinking about himself. That’s when I left him for President Trump,” he wrote at the time.
