James McAvoy says he drew inspiration for his psychopathic character in “Converse No Evil” from a reasonably well-known guy… explaining the character’s venomous masculinity based on the influencer Andre Tate.
The actor revealed the shocking link during an interview with Empire… saying that he considered his character to be the country’s Tate in a way — with the character’s angle focusing on teaching men how to be men again.
James says he puts a more modest face on his character than Tate does in his personal speeches… however, the undercurrent of that toxicity is very much present.
McAvoy claims that despite gaining muscle for the role, he still played the character as softer than an angry hypermasculine man… basically saying he didn’t want to overwhelm the audience with it.
After all, Tate is well known for his views on women… publicly labeling himself a misogynist and calling himself the “king of poisonous masculinity.” He’s also been accused of a series of alleged sexual offenses in Romania too.
That said, it’s unclear how he feels about JM basing a terrifying character on his persona. If you don’t know… “Converse No Evil” follows an American family who meets a British family on a trip and agrees to visit them in their home — resulting in a nightmarish ordeal perpetrated by McAvoy.
The film opens later this month… and fans who want to see all the venomous masculinity James is talking about should head to the theater!
