Middleweight boxer Sheriff Lawal passed away after collapsing in the ring following a knockout on his professional debut in the UK.
He was just 29 years old.
Lawal’s first professional fight took place on Sunday at the Harrow Leisure Center in London… where he faced the Portuguese fighter Malam Varela (2-4).
During the 4th round of their Clash of the Titans undercard fight, Varela threw a right hand that landed directly on Lawal’s temple, knocking him to the ground… and the referee realized that Sherif needed immediate medical attention.
Ringside doctors and paramedics jumped into the ring and reportedly performed CPR on screen for more than 10 minutes before he was taken to Northwick Park Hospital.
Unfortunately, he didn’t survive… and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Lawal’s supporters were devastated by the news.
“I’m really sorry to hear that. What a talent,” wrote one fan. “Condolences to Sherif’s family and friends. May he rest in peace.”

Sherif started boxing in 2018 and decided to turn pro earlier this year… a move supported by his boxing coach, CJ Hussein.
“I think the professional game will suit Sherif, he has all the talent to become a great middleweight,” Hussein told New Camden Diary.
“He is a true inspiration to all the younger boxers in the gym.”
