Elizabeth Moss says filming “Girl, Interrupted” was more like a real-life “Mean Girls,” as the set split into two camps… with Angelina Jolie It is Winona Ryder each one giving orders.
The two-time Golden Globe winner – who played Polly in the 1999 film – opened up about the behind-the-scenes atmosphere of the hit film on the “Let’s Talk Off-Camera with Kelly Ripa” podcast… and, she claims it was like being in rival gangs.
EM says an Angelina Jolie group formed and apparently she found them very intimidating – saying she never considered trying out for the AJ camp because they were all so nice.
Instead, Moss says she stayed with Winona and became very close friends… who often ventured out to lunch together during filming.
BTW… Elisabeth isn’t saying that Angelina wasn’t welcoming… just that the camps came about “based on what was being filmed” – so it seems like they split up more organically than anything.
Moss says she’s seen Jolie more recently…adding that she’s actually a lovely person and not as intimidating as she remembers from filming.
FWIW, Winona has also alluded to a rift on set — in 2010, she told Sydney Morning Herald she thought she would become good friends with Jolie during filming, but felt Angelina needed to see her more as her character to perform at her best.
Method acting at its finest – if Winona’s assessment is correct – and it worked, because Angelina ended up winning the 2000 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.
