Stevie Marvel has launched a 10-date U.S. tour in October, in the run-up to the presidential election, titled “Sing Your Tune! As We Repair Our Nation’s Damaged Coronary heart,” which echoes the title of his current politically themed single. Full dates appear below.
The announcement says the tour is a call for “pleasure instead of anger, kindness instead of recrimination, peace instead of strife.” It also notes that “as a special thank you,” the 25-time Grammy winner will likely offer a delegated number of complimentary tickets “to those in our communities who are already working tirelessly to mend the broken heart of our nation.”
The performances, titled “Sing Your Tune! As We Repair Our Nation’s Damaged Coronary Heart,” are produced by Marvel Productions and promoted by AEG Presents in partnership with Free Lunch, and begin Tuesday, October 8, at the PPG Paints Enviornment in Pittsburgh, PA, with stops in New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Greensboro, Atlanta, Detroit, Milwaukee and Minneapolis before concluding on Wednesday, October 30, at the Van Andel Enviornment in Grand Rapids, MI.
Last month, Marvel made a rousing appearance at the Democratic National Conference. “I know the importance of the movement,” the 74-year-old artist told the group. “Now is the time to understand where we are and what it will take to win: winning the brokenhearted, winning the disenchanted, winning the angry spirits — now is the time.”
“This is the second thing to remember if you inform your children about where you’ve been and what you’ve done… We must choose courage over complacency. It’s time to geeeeeettt “Get up!” he declared, changing his tone to exhortation, “and go vote!” He then launched into his basic 1973 “Piso Maior.”
