J.K. Rowling not looking to reconcile with Daniel Radcliffe It is Emma Watson shortly. The controversial Harry Potter The author made this very clear in a series of messages on social media in which she criticized the Harry Potter movie stars due to their support of trans rights.
Rowling shared on Wednesday what she said was “the most robust review of the medical evidence for children in transition ever undertaken.” Rowling, who has repeatedly doubled down on her views, many have labeled as transphobicwent on to say that “trying to discredit” the study “is not just misguided. It is actively malignant.”
Then one of his supporters responded the series of tweets, saying, “I’m just waiting for Dan and Emma to give you a public apology… safe in the knowledge that you’ll forgive them.” Dan and Emma are a reference to Radcliffe, who starred in Rowling’s most famous literary creation, Harry Potter, and Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the popular franchise.
But Rowling declared that Radcliffe and Watson are far from safe and went a step further.
“It’s not safe, unfortunately,” Rowling responded to the tweet. “Celebrities who have joined a movement that seeks to erode women’s hard-won rights and who have used their platforms to applaud minors’ transitions can save their excuses for the traumatized detransitioners and vulnerable women who rely on social media spaces. same sex.”
For years, Rowling has defended her stance against trans women, and these controversial comments have led Radcliffe and Watson to speak out against her views. For example, in June 2020, Rowling provoked a storm of criticism after she mocked a headline with the term “people who menstruate” on Twitter.
The tastes of strange eye star Jonathan Van Ness and others criticized Rowling, as did Radcliffe, who wrote a long essay addressing the comments, which was posted on the Trevor Project website.
“While Jo is unquestionably responsible for the direction my life has taken, as someone who has had the honor of working and continues to contribute to the Trevor Project for the past decade, and just as a human being, I feel compelled to say something at this time” ,” wrote Radcliffe. “Trans women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of trans people and goes against all advice given by professional health associations who have far more experience on this subject than Jo or I.”
Radcliffe went on to say that given the rate of discrimination faced by transgender and non-binary young people, it is “clear we need to do more to support transgender and non-binary people, not invalidate their identities and not cause further harm.”
Watson also spoke following Rowling’s observations.
“Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told that they are not who they say they are,” Watson shared on Twitter in 2020, without naming Rowling. “I want my trans followers to know that I and many other people around the world see you, respect you, and love you for who you are.”
In January 2022, HBO Max had a Harry Potter special meeting and Rowling skipped, with many thinking she wasn’t invited due to her views on trans rights. Rowling then revealed to Graham Norton in her Virgo Radio show it she was not excluded.
“Actually, I wasn’t (excluded),” Rowling told Norton, who assumed she hadn’t been invited to be in the special. “I was asked to be in this and decided I didn’t want to do it.”
Rowling also gave reasons for not participating in the special.
“I thought it was more about movies than books, you know? Rightfully so, that was what the anniversary was about,” she said, referring to the special marking the 20th anniversary of the first Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. “No one said, ‘Don’t come.’ I was asked to do it and I decided not to do it.”
