Beyonce Knowles once again he returned to talk on the web, this time because of his new album, Cowboy Carter.
The album is Act II of a three-part collection following the huge success of Act I Rebirthand finds the singer switching genres from disco and cottage music to country. Cowboy Carter features 27 tracks – some of them complete, others interludes – and features appearances by Miley Cyrus, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Put MaloneLinda Martell and Beyoncé’s personal daughter, Rumi Carter.
It’s the cover of Parton’s “Jolene” — prefaced by an introduction from Dolly herself in which she references “Becky with the great hair” — that basically has people talking this morning. The reworked lyrics also make it clear that the titular “bitch” better watch her again – as Beyoncé warns: “Jolene, I know I’m a queen / Jolene, I’m still a Creole bitch Banjee de Louisianne (don’t try me). ”
Other tracks being played online are the beautiful “II Most Wished” with Cyrus, “Levii’s Denims” with Malone, “Protector” – with a snippet of daughter Rumi saying “Mom, can I hear the lullaby, please?” – and solo songs like “Ya Ya”, “Riiverdance” and “II Arms II Heaven”.
The album’s release instantly blew up social media, and as of Friday morning, 11 of X’s top 29 features referenced song titles, Bey herself, and her collaborators.
Even Azaelia Banks appeared on the album in Instagram, saying the lyrics felt “really forced,” calling the album “too long” and asking, “Also, who does this imaginary sister adversary still want to attack (Jay Z) in 2024? She needs to discover new content. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, thinks he’s remotely engaging.”
