The worst films of the 20th century, according to Letterboxd

I could have one Mail box problem. Is it unhealthy if I look at Letterboxd more than my email? More than I exercise? Do I more than talk to my wife?

Okay, I’m kidding about the last part. (Most days; some nights my wife goes to bed early! What else am I supposed to do?) It’s a lot of fun to record movies, see what others are watching, and especially see how the millions of other Letterboxd users get along. classify cinema history.

If you go to the “Movies” tab and then “Browse by” year, you can sort movies by release decades and then organize the tens of thousands of movies you get according to user ratings. So if you want to see the worst movies of each decade, according to Letterboxd users, it’s easy to do in seconds with just a few clicks.

There’s no easy way to see the worst movies from the entire 20th century – but like I said, I might have a problem with Letterboxd, so I made this list for myself. I analyzed and cross-referenced the lowest-rated films in each decade, from 1900 to 1990, and then compiled the results into a master document. The 25 lowest of the lowest are ranked below, starting with #25 and ending with number one, the worst-reviewed film released in the 20th century on all of Letterboxd.

While there’s definitely a bit of recent bias in the list – there are far more titles from the ’80s and ’90s than any other decade – there are selections from across the century, including one that’s almost as old as the film medium itself. . It’s a pretty interesting collection of titles, all in all. However, you might want to think twice before watching any of them. It might be smarter to take Letterboxd users at their word.
