Beyonce Is doing Cowboy Carter a family affair! On the 42-year-old singer’s latest album, she played her 6-year-old daughter Rumi Carterto appear on a track titled “Protector.”
At the beginning of the song, Rumi asks, “Mom, can I hear the lullaby?
With that, Beyoncé complies, singing to her daughter: “And I’ll lead you down this path if you get lost / Born to be a protector / Even though I know one day you’ll shine alone / I’ll be your projector.”
Rumi isn’t the only special guest to appear Cowboy Carter. For her eighth studio album, Beyoncé collaborated with artists including Dolly Parton, Post Malone It is Miley Cyrus.
When Beyoncé announced the track list for the album and revealed that she would cover country superstar Parton’s “Jolene.” expressed his support to the track.
“Listen to my original ‘Jolene’ while you wait for @Beyoncé’s COWBOY CARTER – Dolly P,” Parton tweeted.
Beyonce first announced that new song was on the way in a surprise Super Bowl ad at this year’s game. Shortly after the announcement, Beyoncé revealed that the album’s first two songs, “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages”, had been released.
In a post on Instagram ahead of the album’s release, Beyoncé opened up about the inspiration for her latest project.
“This album took over five years to produce. It was born out of an experience I had years ago where I didn’t feel welcome… and it was very clear that I wasn’t,” she wrote. “But because of this experience, I delved deeper into country music history and studied our rich musical archive. It’s great to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives to educating about our musical history.”
She added that Cowboy Carter is “the result of challenging myself and taking the time to bend and mix genres to create this body of work.”
“This is not a country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album,” she concluded. “This is act ii COWBOY CARTER, and I’m proud to share it with you!”
