CEO of Boeing Dave Calhoun says he’s jumping ship and plans to quit by the end of this year… amid the company’s ongoing security fiascos.
In a statement Monday, Calhoun openly acknowledged Boeing’s challenges, saying, “The eyes of the world are upon us, and I know we will come through this moment a better company.”
He added: “We will remain fully focused on completing the work we have done together to return stability to our company after the extraordinary challenges of the last five years, with safety and quality at the forefront of everything we do.”
Meanwhile, in a letter to his employees, Calhoun spoke about humility and transparency during the company’s difficult times… advising them to remain focused on a “total commitment to safety and quality at all levels of our company.” .
He also expressed hope that they would “come through this moment as a better company, leveraging all the learnings we have accumulated as we worked together to rebuild Boeing over the past few years.”
Former CEO of Qualcomm, Steve Mollenkopfwill take over as Boeing chairman following Calhoun’s departure and will lead the search for Boeing’s next chief executive.
The change in the company is even greater… President of Boeing Larry Kelner will also step down in May after nearly 15 years on the board – and Stan Agreementpresident and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, is also available, effective immediately.

Then there’s the LATAM flight in Australia that had passengers fearing the worst when it started falling unexpectedly …and let’s not forget the mid-flight scare with a door blowing open in January – now under criminal investigation.
Furthermore, Boeing whistleblower, John Barnettwhich had been raising serious concerns about the company’s security shortcuts, died earlier this month while in the middle of retaliating against them. Police say it appears Barnett took his own life, but his lawyers don’t believe it!

What’s more… Calhoun entered the Boeing ring just as the world was reeling from the 737 Max disaster that saw 346 lives lost after 2 deadly crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia… grounding all Boeing 737 aircraft Max all over the world.
While the aircraft’s latest malfunctions haven’t caused any deaths, it’s hard to say that Calhoun is leaving Boeing in a better position than when he started.
