Pete Davidsonis leaving “Bupkis” – bidding adieu to the planned 2nd season of his own show… and all because he’s turning his attention to the big screen.
The ‘SNL’ alum said THR Thursday who was happy to have the opportunity to tell his story in his own words through “Bupkis”, after having all his movements and private life documented in the media.
He adds, “I also feel like this part of my life is over. I’m so excited for this next chapter and for you guys to see the work. Thank you to everyone who supports me, I’m forever grateful.”
The publication went on to report that Pete’s agent emailed Peacock earlier this week breaking the news about him leaving the show… but apparently didn’t tell the show’s production company, Lorne Michaels‘Broadway video, see you later. As soon as they learned of the situation, they proceeded with the cancellation.
Another point… THR reports that the end of the show has nothing to do with the industry-wide budget cuts plaguing Hollywood at the moment… it’s all about Pete wanting to move on to greener pastures.
Now we know what this new horizon looks like for Pete – sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ he has a huge new movie coming out, with none other than a comedy legend Eddie Murphyas well as nominated for an Emmy Keke Palmersigned on to co-star…something he’s been working on lately.
Our sources tell us that generally, Pete has been focusing on his stand-up career and filmmaking — and that he wants to keep his attention there. So apparently no more TV for now.
This tracks with what Pete has been up to over the last few years – yes, he was working on “Bupkis”… but he’s been quietly building his film resume behind the scenes with films like “Dumb Money,” “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” “The Squad.” Suicide”, “Fast X” and others.
Of course, “Bupkis” will be missed – as it got everyone excited last year with its 8-episode half-hour series starring Edie Falco It is Joe Pesci as Pete’s mother and grandfather. It was very ‘Dave’.
It was picked up for a second season by Peacock in June, just 2 months after its premiere, to strong reception from viewers and critics. With all that momentum, it seemed like the sky was the limit for the show. But now, Pete is pulling the plug and moving on.
Here’s to bigger and better things… of which it looks like there will be plenty for him.
