Huge Karen was charged with driving under the influence following a car accident on Tuesday night.
Court documents obtained by ET reveal that the 60-year-old TV star The Real Housewives of Potomac was behind the wheel of her 2017 Maserati when she was intercepted by the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland around 11:50 p.m.
Huger was officially charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol. She now has to appear in court.
In addition, Huger is facing a number of other charges, including negligently and recklessly operating a vehicle, endangering property, life and person, and recklessly operating a vehicle with wanton and willful disregard for security.
Other charges include failing to control the speed of the vehicle on the highway to avoid a collision, driving a vehicle above a reasonable and prudent speed on the highway, driving a vehicle on the highway with a suspended registration and failing to notify management of a change of address within 30 days.
ET has reached out to Huger’s rep, Bravo and the Montgomery County Police Department for comment.
A spokesperson for the Montgomery County Police Department confirmed a single-vehicle collision occurred in People, detailing that Huger’s vehicle crossed a median and collided with several street signs. Fortunately, Huger emerged from the accident unharmed.
Authorities said TMZ that Huger was allegedly driving aggressively and at a high rate of speed before the collision. Despite the seriousness of the incident, Huger was not arrested at the scene, but he did receive several citations.
In a statement to TMZ, Huger expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support following the traumatic event. She attributed the emotional toll of recent personal losses — including the death of her mother, Georgia Raines Wooden — to the harrowing circumstances that preceded the accident.
“Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes during this very frightening experience. I am still in shock from last night’s incident, but grateful to be alive today. With the passing of my Beloved Mother, the pain comes and goes in waves, and with Mother’s Day approaching it feels more like a tsunami,” his statement read. “Last night I met a girlfriend for dinner, we talked and covered some very emotionally delicate topics. I was crying on the way home and I saw a car coming towards me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider and then a tree. I’m hurt, a little bruised, but so grateful to be alive! I received citations, one of which was unrelated to the incident, which is understandable, but what’s more surprising is that the car that almost hit me drove away!”
As investigations into the incident continue, Huger urged fans to prioritize their emotional well-being before operating vehicles, emphasizing the importance of safety measures such as seat belts.
“I would like to emphasize that it is important to understand your emotional state when driving,” he concluded his statement, “And let this be a reminder to everyone to wear their seat belt, my mother may be my guardian angel, but the seat belt saved my life. “
