Gavin Rossdale is sharing her version of her divorce from Gwen Stefani. The 58-year-old Bush leader has kept quiet about his ex and their three children, but on this week’s episode of Amy and TJ podcast with Amy Robach and TJ Holmes, he talked about his “clearest, simplest shame,” which was giving his children a “broken home.”
Rossdale and Stefani, 54, share sons Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10. Rossdale is also father to daughter Daisy Lowe, 35, from a previous relationship with Pearl Lowe.
Rossdale and Stefani met in 1995 and married in 2002. They announced their separation in 2015 amid rumors that Rossdale had been unfaithful to Stefani.
“I never thought I would get divorced. So there is a simple shame in my life,” Rossdale explained.
Noting that his parents were married three times, he added that he never wanted his children to have an experience similar to his own.
“I feel bad for my kids, that’s it,” he said. “I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives. It wasn’t fun for me to come from a broken home… It can be quite debilitating for children… the main thing is you don’t want to leave your children to low.”
Without naming Stefani directly, Rossdale said, “The biggest thing would be when you see kids that sometimes there is a loss. It would be nice if there was more connection with the person who made them to me.”
Stefani remarried singer Blake Shelton in 2021. The No Doubt vocalist first got into a relationship with the country singer in The voice when she was splitting from Rossdale and Shelton was divorcing Miranda Lambert.
“I go to a lot of events where ‘the other team’ is, so to speak, and I feel really proud of myself for my consistency as a father. I know in my heart that I am super consistent,” said the British musician. he said, apparently referring to Stefani and Shelton.
And despite what he described as a “very controversial, extremely emotional and inflammatory situation,” Rossdale noted that he does his best not to talk about Stefani.
“I said less, it got better right away and I didn’t say anything,” he said of the divorce. “I’m in handcuffs because I would never want to say anything negative about their mother. It’s just not right.”
Rossdale said he’s calm about how things turned out between him and Stefani.
“I think there are no accidents in life, so you are where you are supposed to be. So, I don’t live in regret,” he shared. “Life just unfolds as it should.”
In fact, he recently went Instagram official with his musician girlfriend, Xhoana, revealing that she met his and Stefani’s children.
