Conor McGregor has nothing but respect for Sidney Sweeney. ET’s Rachel Smith spoke with the UFC athlete at the premiere of Road house on Tuesday, and he praised the actress after trying to pick a fight with her online.
It all started earlier this month when Sweeney took to Instagram to promote his upcoming film, Immaculatewhich will hit theaters a day later Road houserelease on Prime Video. With the films competing against each other, McGregor decided to hijack Sweeney’s post, promoting his own film in the comments.
When ET spoke with McGregor at the premiere, he noted that after making his acting debut in Road househe looks forward to working with one of the industry’s “leaders” in his next role.
“I see a lot of Sydney Sweeney. (She) is doing a lot of good things lately,” McGregor said, before insisting he “wasn’t talking bad about her” with his Instagram comments.
“She follows me, so I follow her. I’m a fan. She’s doing great,” he said. “I thought she was amazing in Saturday night live. I love Saturday night live (and) this was one of the best in years.”
Before trying to team up with Sweeney for his next project, McGregor is focused on promoting Road housethat he stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.
“I was blessed, very, very lucky to walk alongside Jake and learn from Jake,” he said. “… We had a great relationship on set. (He’s a) dear friend of mine, he helped me tremendously… I’m so grateful for Jake Gyllenhaal.”
“I feel like a sponge when it comes to learning things. I’m very curious, especially (about) things that interest me. I’m very curious about the craft,” McGregor added. “I ask him a lot of questions and he just guides me in the right direction. I was very pleased with that.”
Although he asked a lot of questions during the film’s production, McGregor wasn’t nervous about acting for the first time.
“It was who I was. I got into character and got straight to the point,” he said. “I was confident. I went about my business. I had a goal and that was it. I was going to complete it.”
Road house will begin streaming March 21 on Prime Video.
