Sidney Sweeneyis a hall of fame spin-off doctor, or she discovered showbiz… because she’s explaining why the epic failure of “Madame Net” is certainly good for her career.
The actress basically has a strategic business perspective on the film crashing and burning at the box office… counting GQ UK she’s seeing this as a wise move in the grand scheme of things because her involvement in the film has strengthened her ties with the big wigs at Sony.
Sydney says starring in the film opened doors she wouldn’t have had access to otherwise.
Living proof, because of her Sony reference, she was able to make her other film “Anybody But You” and even got the lead role in the new film “Barbarella” – all under the Sony umbrella.
As for instantly addressing the “Madame Net” backlash… Sydney is saying that she was simply employed as an actress and was happy to bring the character to life.
But when it comes to the consequences of failure, she’s okay with riding the wave wherever it takes her, especially since she’s not in the producer’s shoes.
IYDK, in 2020, Sydney actually launched her own production company, Fifty-Fifty Movies, which helped with the success of her other film, “Anybody But You,” co-starring Glen Powell.
“Madame Net” didn’t hit quite the same mark – just collectively raising US$25.8 million domestically on its opening weekend.
But as far as Sydney is concerned, a movie’s plot isn’t an obstacle when it comes to choosing scripts… she’s just focused on building professional relationships.
Translation: Syd is enjoying the long game!
