Mercedes-Benz AMG, long known for its tire-shredding V-8 and V-12 engines, is on track to offer a diverse electric portfolio.
The Affalterbach tuner already offers its own versions of the Mercedes EQE sedan, EQE SUVIt is EQS Hatchbackand is currently working on its first dedicated EV, the prototype of which has just been discovered.
The dedicated EV will be based on AMG’s own modular EV platform, known as AMG.EA, and is expected to debut in late 2025. Timing suggests it will arrive in the US as a 2026 model.
As our spy photos show, the EV will be a super-sleek hatchback with four doors, making it a potential electric alternative to the current GT 4-Door Coupe, a vehicle whose name could lead to production. The two versions will likely be sold side by side for a period, as the current GT 4-Door Coupe has been updated just last year.

Mercedes also announced last week that abandoned a plan follow the exclusively electric route in the main markets until the end of the decade. Instead, the automaker plans to continue offering gas-powered vehicles for the next decade, and possibly longer. This means that the GT 4-door Coupé with a gasoline engine could last longer than previously planned.
AMG teased a potential design for its first dedicated EV with 2022 reveal AMG Vision Concept. The concept was built to showcase the possibilities of the AMG.EA platform and was confirmed by AMG to feature axial-flow engines developed by Yasa, a wholly-owned Mercedes company specializing in high-performance electric motors.
Axial flow engines are lighter and smaller than conventional radial flow engines of similar power. However, manufacturing axial flow engines is more difficult, making them much less economical. A unit destined for production weighs just 53 pounds but generates up to 480 hp, said Yasa boss Tim Woolmer. Car. Two of these engines would give the AMG close to 1,000 hp.

The car’s stylish design will further increase efficiency. AMG is expected to use active aerodynamic features and even a printed logo similar to that used on AMG’s Formula 1 cars and the One hypercar. An active rear spoiler can be clearly seen in some of the spy shots.
AMG has a lot of experience with electric power. He first tested the waters in 2014 with the SLS AMG electric drive. It was the fastest and most powerful EV on the market at the time, thanks to its 740 hp. Since then, AMG has accumulated more experience, especially in the areas of energy discharge and recovery, from its F1 program.
Before the arrival of its first dedicated EV, AMG is expected to present a tuned version of the next CLA-Class, a prototype for which is also under testing.
