More details on Devin’s lawsuit against Ryan
Devin Haney filed suit in New York on Friday (September 27), accusing Ryan Garcia of assault and fraud related to the April match, according to TMZ.
Roommates, if you remember, Ryan knocked Devin down multiple times and won the fight at Barclays Center. However, officials later declared the match no contest due to Ryan testing positive for ostarine.
According to ESPNHaney is seeking unspecified damages and claims Garcia committed assault arguing that “his contest should have adhered to fair rules.”
“Although Devin Haney agreed to participate in a fight against Garcia, at no point did he agree to engage in a fight against an individual who had taken a performance-enhancing drug,” the lawsuit explains.
Devin Haney accused Ryan of fraud for claiming he “tried to gain weight and failed.” Ryan weighed in at 143.2 pounds for a fight contested at 140 for Haney’s WBC junior welterweight title.
ESPN noted that the fight went ahead after Haney accepted a deal after the weigh-in, making Garcia ineligible for the title. Furthermore, Ryan later admitted that he intentionally lost weight.

The lawsuit also targets Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions for breach of contract.
According to TMZ, Devin is asking for compensation, saying the situation caused him “physical harm, reputational damage worth millions, and emotional and mental suffering.”
Ryan covered the process in a Instagram poststating that he was being prosecuted for simply carrying out his duties.
“I’m being sued for doing my job. This fight was a Netflix documentary, but here is the ending. Your Honor, he simply struggles with left hook syndrome,” Ryan wrote.
Additional information and updates about Ryan Garcia
Ryan Garcia remained in the headlines recently after being arrested for criminal vandalism in June and continued problems with his ex-wife, Andrea Celina.
As TSR previously noted, he received a one-year suspension from boxing following a settlement with the New York State Athletic Commission due to positive tests for ostarine, a performance-enhancing drug.
At that time, ESPN reported that he would be reinstated on April 20, 2025, if his urine test came back negative for banned substances. By agreeing to the deal, he avoided a court hearing.
Shortly after news of his suspension broke, Ryan took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce his retirement and assert his innocence, claiming there is “so much corruption” in the sports industry.
Devin shared his thoughts on Ryan’s suspension during a phone interview with ESPN. He expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, believing that justice had been served.
“I want to thank the commission and the fans who were by my side throughout this process. The facts are the facts, and I was not on equal terms. Happy to have been able to receive justice for what happened. Everything is part of my story and will only make me better. I try to enjoy this time with my family and friends and see what comes next,” he said.
Additionally, he emphasized his commitment to defending clean athletes in the future.
“I’m a clean athlete and boxing is a brutal sport where one fight can literally change your life. I think it’s important for fighters to be clean and I want to become an advocate for clean athletes through my experience in this situation.”
