Taiwanese-born actress Shu Qi has completed production on her first feature film as a director, “Lady.”
While the plot and solid details of the new film remain under wraps, “Lady” is Shu Qi’s unique story that she wrote and directed after a period of chronic growth. Shu Qi does not appear in the film.
The picture is financed by Taiwan’s CMC Leisure, Wow momentum, JQ Footage and Aranya Footage, and produced by Mandarin Imaginative and prescient. The film is produced by the government by Yeh Jufeng, a Midas-type producer behind “A Solar,” “The Great Buddha+” and “The Village of No Return,” starring Shu Qi.
The film is expected to be completed on an unspecified date in 2025. Mandarin Vision also serves as the film’s international sales agent outside of mainland China.
“I am so completely satisfied that filming is over. I look forward to sharing this film with audiences everywhere,” Shu Qi said in a prepared statement.
Born Lin Li-hui, Shu Qi has had a stellar career starring in Asian films, including Hou Hsiao-hsien’s “Millennium Mumbo,” “Three Occasions” and “The Murderer,” as well as Feng Xiaogang’s “If You Are the One” trilogy, Wuershan’s hit “Mojin: The Lost Legend” and Jiang Wen’s “Gone With the Bullets.” She also starred in the Luc Besson-backed action title “The Transporter” and appeared in a minor role in “New York, I Love You.”
This earned her a number of Golden Horse Movie Award nominations and wins for Best Supporting Actress for the 1998 comedy “Your Place or Mine” and Best Actress for “Three Occasions”. She also received the Best Actress award at the Asian Movie Awards for 2015’s “The Murderer”.
Additionally, she served as a jury member at the Berlinale in 2008, the Cannes Movie Pageant in 2009 and the Venice Movie Pageant last year. She was invited to become a member of the Academy of Movement Footage Arts and Sciences earlier this year.
