The Saki air base in western Crimea, which Russia uses “to launch air strikes on Ukrainian territory”, was hit by missiles by Ukrainian forces yesterday, with the Russian Defense Ministry not yet commenting on the incident.
Specifically, Ukrainian authorities announced that they had launched missiles at a Russian military airport on the Crimean peninsula, which was used by the Russian air force to launch strikes against its territory, continuing a series of attacks against Moscow’s forces in the region.
In recent months, Kiev has stepped up long-range missile strikes on Crimea, claiming that the Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet, based in Sevastopol, has been forced to move its warships elsewhere, to safer ports.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky alluded to the attacks on the base in his evening address, praising and thanking “our soldiers who are attacking Russian bases in occupied territories” for “their precision.”
At the same time, as announced by the Ukrainian Air Force, anti-aircraft defense systems shot down 4 unmanned offensive drones launched by Russia in the early hours of Saturday.
“All targets were shot down by Ukrainian defense forces in the Dnipro, Poltava, Kharkiv and Kiev regions,” the Ukrainian Air Force said.
