Bachelor fans are going to war with Oprah. How did this rivalry start?
Viewers have spent years investing in Joey’s The Bachelor journey.
However, on Monday night, Bachelor Nation found its intended program quashed by Oprah Winfrey’s defense of dubious weight loss medications.
Branding the city’s fall event as an “Ozempic infomercial,” Bachelor fans are revolting. And they are making some solid points.
‘The Women Tell All’ Became an All-Oprah Winfrey Event
The BachelorThe Women Tell All special “The Women Tell All” did not air at 8pm EST on Monday, March 18th. Instead, it aired at 9 p.m.
Oprah Winfrey left that aside, filling the 8 p.m. time slot with a town hall-style ABC special: Shame, Guilt, and the Weight Loss Revolution.
Clearly, both ABC and Oprah wanted viewers to watch. And maybe they counted on some Bachelor viewers tuning in out of habit and staying tuned.
We want to emphasize that the special did not specify a specific medication. Bystanders assumed the use of a semaglutide and specifically the Ozempic’s infamous brand.
However, Oprah spoke to a woman who had lost 35 pounds using an unidentified and undisclosed weight-loss medication.
“Now there is a feeling of hope and you no longer blame yourself,” Oprah noted. She acknowledged that she personally suffered a lot of external shame – especially from the tabloids – during her decades of fame.
To Oprah, Luxurious Weight Loss Drugs Seem Like a Blessing
“When I tell you how many times I’ve blamed myself because you think, ‘I’m smart enough to figure this out,’ and then I hear all the time that it’s you fighting your brain,” Oprah described.
“I come to this conversation in hopes that we can begin to release stigma, shame and judgment,” she expressed.
Oprah continued, “Stop shaming other people for being overweight or choosing to lose weight or not, and most importantly, stop shaming ourselves.”
Obviously, there are several problems with Ozempic and similar “miracle” weight loss drugs.
We do not yet know the long-term effects of non-diabetic patients taking semaglutide for long periods of time. However, even people who have been hospitalized while taking Ozempic keep praising the medication.
We live in a society that would rather someone be physically ill than overweight. This is a social problem that no medicine can cure.
Using Ozempic for weight loss has a certain consequence
Like reality stars (Ozempic is a hotter topic among Real Housewives than inside the Bachelor world, for now) pointed out, use of semaglutides for luxury weight loss created documented shortages.
This means that there are diabetes patients in the United States who need this medicine but do not have access to it.
Clear, Bachelor most fans questioned how the timing of the Oprah special angered them.
“I was excited to turn on the Bachelor, but instead Oprah is on my TV giving an infomercial for Ozempic… who asked for this!?!?” written an angry fan on twitter.
“Why is Oprah on my TV, right WHERE IS MARY?!” fan of Maria Georgas demanded in another tweet.
“They could have made (Women Tell All) 3 hours long if they hadn’t decided that a stupid ozempic Oprah special was more important,” he criticized a third tweet.
Give people what they want!
