The Israeli Prime Minister spoke tonight about the end of the intense fighting against Hamas. Benjamin Netanyahubut he emphasized that the war will not end until the Palestinian organization no longer controls it Gaza Strip.
Once the intense fighting in Gaza ends, Netanyahu emphasized, who will allow Israel to deploy more forces along its northern border with Lebanonwhere fighting has escalated with the Shiite militant group Hezbollah.
Movement of Israeli forces north
“After the intense fighting phase ends, we will be able to move part of the forces to the north. And we will do that. Firstly, for defense purposes. And secondly, bring our residents (displaced by the fighting) back to their homes,” Netanyahu said in an interview with Israeli television channel Channel 14.
“If we can, we will achieve this diplomatically. If not, we will do it another way. But we will bring (the residents) back to their homes”, he stressed.
Many Israeli towns near the border with Lebanon were evacuated during the fighting.
Netanyahu also reiterated his rejection of the idea of the Palestinian Authority, based in the West Bank, governing the Gaza Strip in place of Hamas.
