Kristen Wiig was thrilled to see her friend and ex- Saturday night live co-star returns to beloved sketch show to host on the weekend.
Wiig spoke to ET at a special screening for your consideration of her series Palma Real at the Hollywood Athletic Club in Los Angeles on Saturday, shortly before Rudolph’s return to Studio 8H that night.
“I’m so (excited),” Wiig shared. “I love watching her whenever I can.”
Wiig – who returned to host SNL at the beginning of this season – served as a cast member from 2005 to 2012. Meanwhile, Rudolph starred in the cast from 2000 to 2007. During the short period in which their paths crossed, the actresses left an indelible mark on the show.
“She’s just in her element on that show,” Wiig said. “She’s going to have an amazing show.”
On Rudolph’s return, who was also SNLannual Mother’s Day special, the comic brought back your Beyoncé impression for another attempt at Hot challengein one of the highlights of this week’s program.
Wiig previously spoke with ET in March about her own return as a host, and she explained the mix of emotions that come with returning to her old stomping ground.
“It’s 90% amazing and 10%, like, I wish I was still there, you know?” Wiig said. “It’s kind of bittersweet in that sense. (But) mostly sweet…it touches my heart a little bit.”
About that, Wiig’s new series, Palma Realfound a devoted fan base after the first season, and the actress told ET on Saturday that they are “very hopeful” about being picked up for a second season.
“Nothing official yet, but we are! We are hopeful,” she shared.
The first season of Palma Real – co-starring Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Carol Burnett and Bruce Dern – is streaming now on Apple TV+.
