Production-Ready Design for LML Star Electric Scooter Revealed, Launch Coming Soon
Lohia Machines Limited (LML), a prominent name in India’s two-wheeler industry from the 1990s to early 2000s, is marking a new chapter in its journey with the approval of a design patent for its Star electric scooter. The move follows the brand’s re-entry into the limelight in 2022 when it unveiled the Star e-scooter concept. This patent approval signals LML’s commitment to compete in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market.
The LML Star, once a popular scooter model sold between 1997 and 2017, is now being revived as an electric variant in collaboration with Saera Electric Auto Private Limited (SEAPL). The scooter’s design is the result of a partnership with renowned Italian designers, who bring expertise from prestigious automotive brands such as Ducati, Ferrari, Yamaha and Kawasaki.
The new electric version of the Star features a maxi-scooter design with a flat floor, accentuated by red detailing under the seat and on the pillion grab handle. The front apron sports a dual-tone finish, complemented by a daytime running light and a photosensitive headlight. While further details about the scooter’s performance are yet to be revealed, its design suggests a modern and stylish EV that aims to meet the growing demand for electric scooters.
Mechanically, the LML Star is equipped with a mid-mounted engine that drives the rear wheel via a belt drive system. The scooter’s suspension consists of a telescopic fork at the front and a side-mounted monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends, suggesting a focus on rider safety and control.
The Star will enter a competitive electric scooter market, taking on established competitors such as Ather Energy and Ola Electric. While performance and pricing details remain undisclosed, LML’s legacy and design pedigree could give it an edge in attracting nostalgic buyers and new EV enthusiasts alike. The brand’s focus on innovative design and its collaboration with industry veterans underscore its ambition to carve out a niche in India’s rapidly evolving EV landscape.
As the Indian electric scooter market continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how LML’s Star stacks up against its competitors and how it is received by consumers. The coming months are likely to bring more clarity on the scooter’s specifications, features and pricing, which will play a crucial role in determining its success in this competitive segment.
