Mikel Arteta has committed to his long-term future at Arsenal by signing a new contract that will keep him at the Emirates until at least 2027.
The Spanish coach’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of this season, but both parties moved quickly to eliminate any uncertainty early.
Arteta has been a central figure in the club’s rise since replacing Unai Emery as the Gunners’ interim manager at the end of 2019, but was made permanent the following year.
After retiring from playing at Arsenal in 2016, Arteta joined Manchester City’s coaching staff under Pep Guardiola and won two league titles and a League Cup.
He is the main architect of the Londoners’ renaissance and, having built a team that came so close to winning the Premier League in the last two seasons, his contract extension is a huge sign that he is determined to get the job done.
With his long-term future sorted, Arteta has the chance to establish Arsenal as the dominant force in England.
After Arsene Wenger’s 22-year reign at the club, it was hard to imagine another figure lasting as long, but Arteta has managed to do so.
