The SYRIZA Political Secretariat recommends holding a party conference from 1 to 3 November and electing a new SYRIZA president in two rounds.
The first round will be held on the day November 24th and the second, if necessary, on December 1st.
In the Political Secretariat, it appears that Pavlos Polakis, Theodora Tzakri and Olympia Teligioridou abstained, with the result of voting to be 18-3. On October 20th, the delegates who will represent the Member Organizations at the conference will be elected.
A new meeting of the Central Committee will follow (21-22/9) which should approve the respective proposal, since the texts of the conference and the measure of the delegates should be prepared.
Previously, there was a proposal to hold a three-day conference on October 25, 26 and 27 and elections a month later.
The climate is polarized
The choice of the date for the announcement of the elections is not considered unrelated to the tug of war within SYRIZA.
And this is because Kasselakis’ opposition believed that the longer the time between the vote at the polls and the motion of censure, the more it would weaken a possible candidacy of the deposed leader, since it would have drastically removed him from the party apparatus and limited the possible reactions of sympathy towards his face that could have been caused by his politically unprecedented resignation.
