Tom Selleck is showing off an “unrecognizable” new look.
Well, everyone knew that big changes were coming. for Tom Selleck following Blue Blood‘ cancellation.
One thing that nobody expected to change the almost 80 year old actor was his iconic mustache.
His new facial hair situation has left the TV acting legend looking almost unrecognizable. This is unexpected for one of the most famous faces of the last 40 years.
What is Tom Selleck’s new “unrecognizable” look?
Final episodes of Blue Blood I finished filming a long time ago. The bittersweet episodes are just a few weeks away.
As such, Tom Selleck doesn’t have a contractual obligation to maintain a certain appearance. This is a time when people often see actors cutting back on intense diets and workout routines, changing their hairstyles, or making other adjustments.
But for Tom Selleck, 79, his new look is downright unkempt. Eyewitnesses recently spotted his facial hair in a very different state (and yes, you can see it below).
As Stop reports, eyewitnesses saw Tom Selleck running errands near his ranch home in Thousand Oaks, California.
Typically, he sports a distinctive mustache that has been the defining feature of his face for longer than most of us have been alive. However, this time, he sported a full beard.
Plus, Selleck’s casual attire — regular clothes like shorts and a T-shirt — was very different from how people see him dressed at events and on television. Probably because he was, you know, running errands.

Obviously, Tom Selleck was a little more organized for his recent interview in which he swapped old Hollywood stories with Ted Danson.
He wasn’t running errands this time. But he still sported a bit of a beard, despite his less casual attire.
Technically, his mustache is still there. He hasn’t shaved it off. But the presence of the rest of the beard makes it less of a defining feature and, well, just part of the beard.
It may surprise some longtime fans to learn that Tom Selleck wasn’t born with that mustache. When he made his acting debut in The Young and the Restlesshe looked well-groomed and clean-shaven.
However, when he starred as the main character in Magnum, PITom Selleck sported a mustache. It became an indelible part of his public image.
The mustache was a key part of Tom Selleck’s look, so much so that CBS wanted him to keep it for a long time. Blue Blooddespite his role as a fictional police chief. Honestly, realism should always have reasonable limits on TV. Both because actors are people (don’t make your entire cast have haircuts) and because television is a visual medium (don’t make your main star unrecognizable).
When will ‘Blue Bloods’ officially end?
Blue Blood will begin airing its final eight episodes on Friday, October 18.
The series airs on CBS. The network canceled the long-running show (much to Selleck’s disappointment), though so far it appears to be doing well.
Fourteen seasons is a good run. Especially in our streaming-era dystopia, where one or two 8-episode seasons have become a grim reality for so many projects.
