Beetlejuice Beetle Juice hit theaters 36 years after the original film. There’s a large percentage of the audience for the new film — which once again stars Michael Keaton as the title character, alongside Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe — who never got to see the first one. Beetle juice on a big screen. There’s a huge percentage of the new movie’s audience who weren’t even born when it came out! Time is a cruel mistress to those of us who aren’t bioexorcists.
So it may have been prudent Beetlejuice Beetle Juice to keep the original film at the size of a sandworm; to not be too tied to the first film or its continuity. Tim Burton went in a different direction, not just continuing the old Beetle juicein the sequel, but also including a ton of easter eggs, references, and subtle nods to the first film, Burton’s wider filmography, and other older films and TV shows as well.
