2025 Nissan Patrol revealed with sharper styling cues and 3.5-liter V6 engine
After a long wait of 14 years, Nissan has officially unveiled the new Patrol, marking a significant update for this iconic model. The new-generation Patrol, codenamed Y63, is set to go on sale globally later this year, with plans to market it as the Nissan Armada in North America. This launch brings a host of new features, an updated design and advanced technology to the table, positioning the Patrol as a strong contender in the full-size SUV segment.
Modern design and rugged appeal
The 2024 Nissan Patrol sports a more angular and rugged design compared to its predecessor, adopting a squarer silhouette that highlights its off-road personality. Up front, the SUV features a wide piano black grille flanked by vertically aligned headlights with an E-shaped LED DRL pattern. A thin chrome bar connects the headlights, positioned above the chrome-trimmed grille, while the front bumper takes design cues from the Range Rover with a horizontally positioned air dam.
The side profile of the new Patrol reveals a mix of angular and rounded surfaces, with a large glass greenhouse emphasizing its stature as a full-size SUV. The rear section includes a vertical tailgate with rounded edges, vertically positioned taillights connected by a horizontal LED light bar, and a high rear bumper with unique faux aluminum inserts.
An interior loaded with technology
Inside, the new Patrol offers a blend of premium materials and advanced technology. The cabin, which accommodates three rows of seats, features soft-touch materials, faux brushed aluminum trim and a choice of upholstery options depending on the variant. At the heart of the interior’s modern aesthetic are two 14.3-inch displays — one serving as a digital instrument cluster and the other as an infotainment screen.
Nissan has replaced the traditional gear selector with a set of buttons on the center console, placed below the HVAC controls. Additionally, a rotary selector for terrain modes is positioned next to these controls, which are designed for easy operation even when wearing gloves.
Top Patrol variants come equipped with a 12-speaker Klipsch premium sound system, rear entertainment screens and a range of convenience features including wireless charging, USB-C ports in all rows, a head-up display and gesture control for the infotainment system.
Powerful and Capable
Under the hood, the new Patrol is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 425 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and comes with full-time all-wheel drive. The powertrain represents a significant upgrade, offering more power than the previous generation’s 5.6-liter V8 engine and outperforming competitors such as the diesel engine in the Toyota Land Cruiser 300.
The Patrol Y63 is built on an evolved version of the previous Y62 platform, featuring adaptive air suspension on higher variants. The SUV also comes with selectable terrain modes including Standard, Sand, Rock, Mud, Eco and Sport, catering to a variety of driving conditions.
The off-road specialist: Pro-4X variant
Nissan has introduced an off-road-focused Pro-4X variant of the Patrol, initially targeting the North American market. This variant is equipped with 20-inch all-terrain tires, adaptive air suspension, a metal skid plate, and an electronically locking rear differential. The Pro-4X is designed to handle tough off-road conditions, with increased ground clearance and improved approach, departure, and descent angles. This variant positions the Patrol as a direct rival to rugged models such as the Land Cruiser 300 GR.
Potential Indian launch
Nissan previously evaluated the Patrol Y62 for the Indian market but decided not to launch it. However, with the new Y63, there is renewed potential for the Patrol to compete against established models like the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in India, should Nissan decide to bring it to the country.
The new Nissan Patrol represents a significant leap forward for the brand, combining modern design, advanced technology and robust performance to appeal to a global audience. Whether on urban roads or challenging terrain, the Patrol is equipped to deliver a versatile and commanding driving experience.
